Brandon Davies is back at BYU! Good thing or bad???

Posted: August 27, 2011 in College Basketball

Ok so was this a smart decision or a bad one?  Well the last time Davies was at school he had sex and was kicked out, yes ladies and gentleman premarital sex.  BYU’s honor code states that:

Be honest
Live a chaste and virtuous life
Obey the law and all campus policies
Use clean language
Respect others
Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse
Participate regularly in church services
Observe the Dress and Grooming Standards
Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the Honor Code

Well that’s straight from the BYU’s undergrad catalog under HONOR CODE STATEMENT.  So basically living a chaste and virtuous life in plain English means no sex before marriage.  The real question is are the guidelines fair? It is college, and if I remember correctly, college was not just about academics, and no one is perfect.  Sometimes an individual can just slip and fall into another person’s bed!  Its crazy but it happens; its college!  So if coffee is not allowed, are Red Bulls and Five hour energy drinks?  I mean it is college, and late night papers are typed up!(Believe me I know!)  And no drinking??? Hmm I guess BYU graduates have a very low-tolerance!  Man no beer pong is played around that campus, and BYU graduates must have the worst drinking games!   All jokes aside though, because of the “honor code” BYU will never make the top 10 in “Top Party School.”
But if a student does not want to follow these rules, then why did they CHOOSE to go to this school to begin with?  If the end result is being kicked out of school, and a student or student-athlete breaks the rule and is caught, well its not like they weren’t warned.  If the speed limit says 45 and the driver is going 60 and receives a ticket, well its not like the driver did not know the risks.  Brandon Davies could have chose to go to any other university in the country, but instead he chose to come back to BYU.  Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.  Brandon if you go from the classroom to the gym to the classroom, I’m sure you can bypass BYU basketball groupies! Well are there any BYU groupies???

  “WAIT! Those are Jimmers fans!”

I mean rules are rules, if you break them, be ready for the consequnces. My main concern is WHY would you want to go back to school if you are good enough to go to a different school. The School gave him an out,and he still chose to go back to that prudish situation???

I understand where the young is coming from. He does not want to run from a situation. He signed up to abide by guidelines, and so he wants to finish. He doesn’t want to run to another school because he is trying to bust one off. If those are his beliefs then he is making the right decision. My man is trying to say it’s not about basketball, it’s about becoming a man.

Davies wouldn’t degrade himself to become a Ute.
